 Frequent questions and answers...

What are your hours of business?

A typical day will run from 8am until 5.30pm. However, should you require different hours, please contact me and I will see if I am able to accommodate you.

How much will it cost?

This will be discussed with you based upon the hours/times etc that you require and will be included in your contract.

What will I need to provide?

Food, drinks and snacks will be included within your rate. However, I would ask that you provide nappies, wipes, a beaker, change of clothes, a toothbrush if you would like me to encourage brushing after meals, suitable clothing for your child for both inside and outside play. I will always try my best to keep your child clean and tidy but please do not provide me with clothes that have any special significance or are "for best".

Will my child travel in your car? Do I need to provide a car seat?

Yes, my car will provide our transport for school runs as well as trips out to the beach, parks etc. The car is kept roadworthy and has insurance and a valid MOT. Children will travel in car seats appropriate to their age/size and these will be provided by Bambinos Child Care.

What type of food do you provide?

The majority of food will be home cooked although I might occasionally use ready meals for babies / young toddlers - please advise me if you do not wish this to be the case. A typical menu will be provided and will include meals such as cheese and potato pie, cornbeef hash, different fish (cod, tuna, mackerel, salmon), vegetable fritters, scrambled eggs, omelettes, waffles, chicken nuggets, chicken pieces, sausages, pasties, dippy eggs and soldiers. I will also encourage children to eat fruit as snacks as well as cereal bars, custard and yogurts. If your child has any allergies / intolerances this will be discussed within the contract and during conversations between you and me.

What training have you received?

I am a qualified childminder after completing the CYPOP 5 course and am registered with CSSIW. I have also received paediatric first aid training as well as food hygiene training.

What activities will be on offer?

I am able to offer a wide range of activities

Playgroups / play centres will be on offer as well as regular outings to the beach, parks, Gnoll. I am a big fan of getting children outdoors and teaching them through play and new experiences. I have a large selection of arts and crafts materials as well as toys and games which all help a child's development. Song time, story time and dancing / party time will also be incorporated throughout the weekly activities.

What if my child is ill?

I am happy to care for a child who is suffering from a cold or minor illness but if your child is feeling very unwell, has a high temperature or is contagious, then the best place for him/her will be at home with his/her parents. If your child is due to attend the setting, then payment will still be required at the agreed rate.

What if your child is ill?

Unfortunately children do become ill at times. Should one of my own children be unwell, I will contact you as soon as possible to advise you of this. If it is a minor illness and you are still happy for your child to attend, then they may do so. However, if my child is very unwell or is contagious, then I will advise that I am unable to offer childcare on this occasion - I will be able to offer you the name of a back up childminder whom your child will have met, as well as other possible childminders. Fees will be waived whilst the child is unable to attend. I do not envisage this being a problem, both my children are in good health, have received their vaccinations and have both already had chickenpox.

Who else will have access to my child?

I will be the sole carer for your child. My husband is away from the setting during the day and normally returns home around 5.30pm. In accordance with CSSIW regulations my husband has also been DBS checked (previously CRB). The only other people in the household are my own children, Noah and Taylor. The minded children will certainly have contact with many other adults and children, however they will be within my care.

Do you have any pets?

We do not have any pets at the setting. I am animal friendly, however I am wary of children coming into contact with animals with which they are unfamiliar. Children will have experience of animals via outings (animal feeding, animal handling experiences etc) and through experiences in the setting relating to nature (insects, butterflies- activities involving these)

Do you smoke?

The setting is smoke free. We have received a visit from South Wales Fire Service and they are happy with the setting and the safety arrangements. There are 2 smoke detectors at the setting operated by battery and mains power.

I'm worried about my child settling in and how he/she will cope....

Take advantage of the welcome sessions. It's exactly what they are there for! Please speak to me about these and hopefully I can put your mind at ease.
